Men's winter coats
Made to measure coating
A solid winter coat is a cornerstone piece in any wardrobe. When temperatures drop there is nothing more comforting that to wrap yourself in a beautiful wool coat.
As it goes for tailoring, we can make you a more or less formal winter coat. The right cloth and cut both depend on your lifestyle and intended use. Ardentes Clipei offers a range of timeless coats for men, based on classic style made for contemporary use: the Ulster, Raglan and Polo coat.

The Polo Coat
The Polo coat is a classic, long, double-breasted overcoat traditionally made from camel hair, as the name indicates, for polo players. It is one of the most elegant and practical winter coats, with its typical patch pockets and cuffs. Camel hair is a precious wool with a beautiful lustre to it; a more casual Polo coat can be made from a pure wool cloth.

The Raglan Coat
With its characteristic shoulder line, the Raglan coat is made for mobility and easy wear. The soft shoulder and ample cut make this a winter coat made for movement, layering comfortably over a jacket or heavy knitwear.
More casual than a winter coat with a regular or set-in sleeve, the Raglan coat makes for great day-to-day winter armour.

The Ulster Coat
The Ulster coat, one of the most emblematic winter coats, is a classic coat we have been making since the start of Ardentes Clipei. Double-breasted, with generous proportions and a number of distinctive details, the Ulster coat works perfectly with both formal and casual outfits.
This cut works well with most winter coat cloths, from smooth wools to heavy tweeds with plenty of texture.
Our overcoats are made in Italy to the same exacting standards as our made-to-measure tailoring.
The construction is fully canvassed, and the materials are pure: mostly wool, cashmere or camel hair. The buttons are made from horn.
A heavy English wool cloth is one of the most durable materials for an overcoat designed to face the elements. Other, more precious wools, such as camel hair or cashmere, are beautiful options, although they require more gentle wear.
Weight, solidity, warmth and style are some of the elements taken into account when choosing a fabric for a coat commission. Our role is to guide and advise you in finding the ideal cloth for you. This is the starting point before we go deeper into the cut and details.
A vast collection of coat cloths is available in our shop, from hard-wearing English wools to softer and lighter Italian options. You will find discreet and plain colours, as well as classic woven patterns such as herringbone and checks.
Creating your made to measure coat
A winter overcoat is one of the pieces that makes perfect sense made to measure. The heavier cloth makes for a piece that will, with a little care, last you a very long time. It should be a joy to unpack every season when the temperatures start to drop.
We can make you any type of coat: an Ulster coat, a Polo coat, a Raglan coat, a Covert coat or a Chesterfield coat. These are classic styles and a perfect base for a made-to-measure project. Details can be adapted and tweaked to make a completely personal garment. The choice of cloth, its colour and texture will determine the level of formality and character, as will the cut.
A made-to-measure coat is a unique piece, crafted exclusively for you in our Tuscan workshop. Depending on your physique and desired fit, your measurements will be used to create a unique and personal pattern for your overcoat.
