Contemporary Linen
Maison Hellard
Maison Hellard is a beautiful family story
we follow closely since the start.
When we first met Nathan, we were taken by his passion and stubborn willingness to preserve the use of French linen in tailoring but also to reinvent the use of it. From the soft hills of Normany where the flax grows to the skilled weavers in Italy, Maison Hellard makes a beautiful and very contemporary range of pure linen and linen blend cloth.
As one of the most driven young entrepreneurs in his field, he navigates and challenges a market of giants and historic cloth merchants. Most of whom have been around for decades and even centuries.
The colour range and pattern is overall masculine and muted, fitting for linen suits and garments you do not only wear on holiday.
Most often linen is presented as vacation wear with very colourful bunches, which is nice too, but less versatile.
Secondly, Nathan brings new ideas to the use of linen. Every time we see him he brings swatch samples - he has a new blend or weave in development.
Fresco Linen
An example is the Fresco Linen, a clever collaboration with Huddersfield New Fine Worsteds (Hardy Minnis), making a 50% linen 50% wool Fresco cloth.
Fresco is a trademark for an open weave, breathable and crease resistant wool cloth. It is The grand classic cloth for summer suiting
on Savile Row and with tailors worldwide - and has been for decades.
This is a purely natural technical cloth, woven from French linen and British wool in England. Blending in linen gives Fresco a more rustic and casual look and feel.
The first season Maison Hellard launched this quality we used the beautiful light greige Grasmere Dove, HU02 in our collection of Ardent Trousers.
We wore them over and over, and were convinced - it’s simply a fantastic cloth for summer trousers and tailoring that look dressier and more put together than pure linen.
With the open and airy weave you can literally feel a breeze, which is always welcome in the summer. This low maintenance cloth is
ideal for warm weather and summer vacation packing.
We loved the cloth so much we asked Nathan if he could create an exclusive Brown shade for us.
We settled on a beautiful Chocolate Brown shade, that wears well with other earthy colours, light blue, pastels, navy and black.
Our tailored Ardent Trouser in two shades of Fresco linen, our exclusive Chocolate Brown and light greige Grasmere Dove.
There is a poetic tone to the brand Maison Hellard, that gives identiy to each fabric in the collection.
Each reference has a name which is often about a person or a place - it can be a tribute or a memory.
In the Carnet de Voyage bunch, you will also find artwork in the shape of pure silk linings, imagined to go with the cloth for tailoring.
We much invite you to discover Maison Hellard in shop to touch and browse their wonderful bunches.
